The Patient Care Associate (PCA) is a specially trained member of the Nursing Department who provides assistance to either the RN or LPN in delivery of selected aspects of patient care. The Patient Care Associate understands and complies with the Philosophy, Standards, Objectives and Policies of the Department. The Patient Care Associate obtains blood specimens and assists in other tasks as needed.
Qualifications Responsibilities:
Education Required Must complete in-house orientation program High School Diploma or equivalent At least one of the following: Successful completion of an approved PCT, PCA, Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or EMT course Successful completion of 1 semester of hospital-based clinical rotation while enrolled in an accredited Nursing Program Minimum of 1-year PCA, PCT, CNA, or ED Tech experience in an acute or subacute setting Successful completion of Mount Sinai South Nassau Student Nurse Intern Program (300 hours) Experience And Skills Excellent interpersonal skills Speaks, reads and writes English Technical skills required for patient care Successful completion of MSSN phlebotomy training within 90 days of hire Good verbal and written communication skills Good interpersonal skills Basic Computer Skills License/Certifications Working Conditions Other information: Working Conditions Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worn Lifts, positions and/or transfers patients/equipment Protective clothing/equipment worn
