Description:

Tulane University School of Medicine (Tulane SoM) seeks candidates for the newly created position of Dean of Clinical and Translational Research. The Assistant/Associate Dean will be an accomplished scientist and visionary leader in funded clinical research with experience working within a matrixed academic environment. The Assistant/Associate Dean will be expected to enhance and deepen research collaborations with the Tulane School of Medicine, health system and cross-university initiatives. This position will also be accountable for the growth and development of the Tulane Center for Clinical Research (TCCR). A key responsibility for this role will be the creation of a strategic plan that features clinical impact, competitive analysis, business plans, and performance management. The overarching approach will be to synergize the many elements needed to conduct the full-range of clinical trials from Phase 1 to Phase 4, bench to bedside, investigator-initiated to industry- or federally sponsored research. Strategically, this individual will primarily focus on evaluation of the current competitive environment and landscape to assess strengths, opportunities, and weaknesses in order to build research prowess with industry sponsors in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

Qualifications:

An MD, MD/PhD, PhD, DO, DNP or equivalent terminal degree(s), strong medical background with a sustained record of peer reviewed publications and funding. Candidates must possess academic credentials and experience that qualify them for appointment as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at Tulane University. A distinguished record of research, administration and teaching with an emphasis on funded, particularly industry-sponsored, research. Strong leadership skills with the ability to advance and develop a clinical research program. Demonstrates a career progression that has prepared them for a position of this scope, complexity and scale. Possesses a strong track record of extramural funding and publications and evidence of a strong commitment to advancing scientific discovery and achievement. Has served as a visionary and strategic leader with knowledge and experience in academic institutions, health centers, teaching hospitals, community healthcare leadership, and industry research leadership. Demonstrates experience in fiscal management and advancing a diverse faculty. Demonstrates experience as a leader who inspires faculty and staff to work together to maximize the potential of the department. Demonstrates ability to navigate effectively within academic, healthcare, nonprofit and corporate entities.
