This is a dynamic role ideal for entry level professionals who want to build a broad base of experience and includes working with: Natural resource scientists on wetland delineations and field surveys Geologists on environmental sampling and compliance Environmental permitters on Federal, State, and local permit applications Engineers to interpret environmental regulations and ensure sound design choices Initial work will be closely supervised by senior staff, with the intent of expanding your role and responsibilities as you demonstrate competency. Working with the project team, you will provide support for environmental and natural resource projects through tasks such as field sampling, wetland delineations, habitat assessments, groundwater and soil investigations, data analysis, and the preparation of technical reports and permit documentation. What you can expect to be doing: Field Performs field surveys, field inspections, and soil testing. Conducts sampling of landfill gas, groundwater, surface water, wastewater, sediment, ash, leachate, soil, and air including gathering and measuring field data, logging numerical and visual observations, preparing and packaging samples, and recording test results. Operates a variety of field equipment for soil and water testing (pumps, GPS, water quality monitoring equipment, etc.). Coordinates and assists with field activities with direction from senior staff, including logging and sampling of borings, test pits, and cores, supervising the investigation work; preparing detailed documentation of studies; and identifying potential problems relating to a site under the direction of professional geologists. Assists with natural resources surveys (wetlands, streams, vegetation, highest observable tide line, etc.) with direction from senior staff, conducting wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and rare species surveys, primarily in Maine and New Hampshire under the supervision of a professional wetland scientist and New Hampshire Certified wetland scientist. Office Tabulates data and prepares charts, graphs, or sketches. Operates various software applications (ArcGIS Pro, etc.) with the ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files. Prepares reports and maps, interprets research data, and recommends further study or action. Analyzes laboratory results, prepares geologic logs, interprets data, and conducts statistical analysis. Recommends further study or action. Prepares natural resource documentation such as wetland delineation reports, functional assessments, and permit applications. Works closely with personnel from other Haley Ward divisions as necessary to fulfill project requirements. What you will need to succeed: Preferred B.S. degree in Geology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resources, Wildlife, Forestry, or related field. OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) 40-hour preferred, or the ability to obtain. Mechanical aptitude and outdoor competency required. Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and other support software including the use of analytical models. GPS, GIS, or AutoCAD experience preferred. Experienced with field investigation methods including soil boring logging, rock core logging, direct-push sampling, groundwater/surface water/sediment/soil vapor sampling, monitoring well installation oversight, wetland delineation, and remediation system operation and maintenance a plus. Effective communication and technical writing skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and function well in a high-paced collaborative dynamic environment. A criminal background check and driving record check will be conducted.
