The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation. The Human Resources Division, Staffing Administration Section seeks a qualified Research Assistant to assist with Department operations. The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting research activities related to the review and evaluation of a civilian members of the service’s suitability for promotion, upgrade or salary increase. Duties include; gathering, organizing and analyzing data from various sources and ensuring accuracy and integrity; ensuring the timely receipt of all documentation, performance evaluations and recommendations; recording the disposition of promotional list actions according to personnel rules and regulations; and verifying all budget approvals have been received. The Research Assistant will assist with overseeing the work of (4) Senior Police Administrative Aide and (1) Police Administrative Aide engaged in critical day-to-day personnel activities of the Promotions Unit; and maintaining and updating the Civilian Transaction Tracking System (CTTS) with the most current data; assisting with scheduling civil service interviews; and researching complex personnel issues.

Minimum Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and six months of satisfactory full-time experience in research which involves gathering, organizing and analyzing data, and report writing; or 2. An associate degree from an accredited college, or completion of 60 semester credits at an accredited college, and two years and six months of satisfactory full-time experience in research which involves gathering, organizing and analyzing data, and report writing; or 3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years and six months of satisfactory full-time experience in research which involves gathering, organizing and analyzing data, and report writing; or 4. Education and experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of full-time experience. Completion of nine credits, at the college or graduate school level, in statistics, quantitative methods, mathematics, or research can be substituted for six months of the required experience. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least six months of required experience or the nine specialized credits. Preferred Skills Preference will be given to candidates who possess knowledge of civil service exam rules, and proficiency in Microsoft computer applications including Word, and Excel. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
