Research Scientist, Systems and Infrastructure (PhD)

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, operations, infrastructure) to build innovative application experiences Implement custom user interfaces using latest programming techniques and technologies Develop reusable software components for interfacing with back-end platforms Analyze and optimize code for quality, efficiency, and performance Lead complex technical or product efforts and provide technical guidance to peers Architect efficient and scalable systems that drive complex applications Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues Work on a variety of coding languages and technologies Establish ownership of components, features, or systems with expert end-to-end understanding

Minimum Qualifications:

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta 2+ years of programming experience in a relevant language OR a PhD + 9 months programming experience in a relevant language Track record of setting technical direction for a team, driving consensus and successful cross-functional partnerships Experience building maintainable and testable code bases, including API design and unit testing techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

Interpersonal experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment Experience with programming languages such as Python, C, C++ Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as NSDI, SREcon, MLSys, PyCon, OSDI, KDD, USENIX Security, ICSE, PLDI, SIGMOD, VLDB, SIGCOMM, SOSP, IMC, OCP, or similar Knowledge of relational databases and SQL Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub) Research and/or work experience in Algorithms, Architecture, Compilers, Databases, Data Mining, Distributed Systems, Infrastructure Systems, Mobile, Networking, Operating Systems, Programming Languages, Security, Cryptography, Storage or other relevant fields Exposure to architectural patterns of large scale software applications Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and different perspectives to determine a path forward
