POSITION SUMMARY

: This position assists veterans and their families concerning county, state, and federal benefits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

: Provide assistance to Bucks County veterans in the development of a service connected compensation or pension claim for benefits to include creating, investigation, and electronic filing of paperwork to the Department of Veteran Affairs. Organize, strategize, and accompany veterans through the appeals process. Obtain status updates throughout the life of the compensation claim or pension. Assist the PA Dept. of Military and Veteran Affairs office in the filing of property tax exemption applications by gathering forms and necessary documents and submitting said applications. Assist needy veterans in completing emergency grant applications that include a justification for the grant, and submitting said applications. Act as a Veteran Affairs liaison to local, state, and federal elected officials that are supporting their veteran constituents. Be prepared, accept, and accommodate those veterans with physical disabilities, mental health issues and homelessness. Purchase, organize, and distribute American flags and grave markers to service organizations. Provide information and assistance to scheduled appointments and walk-ins, answer phones or relay messages as necessary. Assists and cooperates with the Director of Military Affairs in the efficient operation of the office. Maintains and conducts the office in an effective and efficient manner when the Director is out of the office on business. Mails publications to inform veterans and general public concerning benefits, services and right of veterans and dependents. Processes county burial allowances and headstone applications for final approval. Reports unusual conditions or questionable items to supervisor. Obeys all safety rules and regulations. May be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job. More detailed instructions as to the nature of their duties will be given to employees at the beginning of work.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Required to be accredited with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the Federal Department of Veterans Affairs Security clearance, finger printing, and criminal background check. Additional continuing education to obtain access into the federal Department of Veteran Affairs computer system. Ability to work effectively with veterans and the general public.
