Brief Summary
Title:
Actuarial Analyst
You’ll Report to: Reserving Manager
The Actuarial Analyst supports critical reserving decisions in a growing company by analyzing key metrics, evaluating impact of operational changes, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver actionable actuarial insights. You will drive innovation through creative problem-solving process improvements, and enhanced reporting.
What You’ll Do
Analyze loss development triangles and evaluate key metrics to assess reserve adequacy, identify trends, and support financial decision-making.
Develop and maintain actuarial models to project future liabilities and assess reserve adequacy.
Enhance regular reports and create ad hoc reports to evaluate operational results and answer key business questions.
Collaborate cross-functionally with pricing, product, accounting, and claims teams to gather input, share findings, and ensure alignment between actuarial insights and business strategies.
Understand key business decisions and their potential impact on financial outcomes, integrating this knowledge into reserving analyses and recommendations.
Provide clear, data-driven recommendations to management based on actuarial analyses.
Work independently to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and deliver high-quality actuarial work with minimal supervision.
Update and maintain documentation for models, assumptions, processes, and reporting to ensure transparency and consistency.
Enhance and streamline data collection and reporting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in quarterly reserving work.
What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Finance, Actuarial Science or equivalent education and experience required.
Two (2) or more completed actuarial exams
Experience:
One (1) to three (3) years of Personal Lines Property actuarial experience. Reserving experience preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
Exceptional Excel skills required
Working knowledge of basic loss reserving techniques required
Excellent interpersonal, documentation, presentation, and organizational skills required
Present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized and diplomatic manner
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Interpret technical data
Effectively work with SQL and VBA.
Learn additional software applications as required
Flexibility in shifting focus or course of action
Resourceful in gaining input to solve problems
Basic ratemaking knowledge preferred
Schedule:
8:30-5:30pm, M-F. #LI-Onsite
Working Conditions:
Normal business office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.
Travel:
Minimum, as required.
