Job Description

Director of Digital Engineering
Location Clearwater, FL, USA Category Marketing & Communications Job Type Full Time PODS is reimagining the moving business, and we are building an industry-leading digital experience to make moving easier, faster, and more customer-centric. Our goal is to create a platform that allows customers to quote, book, and manage their entire move online while supporting the internal tools and experimentation frameworks that power that experience. As the Director of Digital Engineering, you will lead the engineering strategy and execution across all digital customer experiences. You will work hand in hand with Product, UX, and Data Science teams to deliver performant, scalable solutions that make a measurable impact. This role will have high autonomy, executive visibility, and will play a key role in shaping PODS’ long-term digital roadmap. You will report to the VP of Digital and lead a high-performing team focused on rapid iteration, A/B testing, and AI/ML-powered personalization.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Lead a team of tech leads and engineers across multiple digital workstreams including discovery, booking, and post-booking
Partner with Product and UX to define and deliver test-and-learn roadmaps using robust A/B testing frameworks
Collaborate with Data Science to bring AI, ML, and LLM-powered experiences into production including personalization and decision support features
Make key architectural decisions to ensure our systems are scalable, secure, and maintainable
Build and sustain a high-performing engineering culture focused on speed, ownership, and learning

RESPONSIBLIITES

Own the technical vision and execution for PODS’ digital customer experiences across web and mobile platforms
Drive a culture of experimentation through A/B testing, rapid iteration, and continuous optimization
Oversee the design and implementation of AI and ML features including generative applications and personalization models
Ensure engineering excellence across code quality, system performance, security, and documentation
Scale and develop an in-house engineering team while managing external technical partners as needed
Shape quarterly and annual roadmaps in collaboration with Product, UX, and business stakeholders
Partner with DevOps, Security, and Enterprise Architecture to ensure integration and compliance with enterprise standards
Lead our approach to site reliability engineering, monitoring, and path to production

BASIC QUALITIFACTIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
10+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles
Proven success delivering large-scale digital platforms using modern, cloud-native architecture (preferably Azure)
Expertise in A/B testing, experimentation platforms, and conversion rate optimization
Strong understanding of AI and ML concepts with experience in applying them to customer-facing applications
Hands-on experience with modern development frameworks and technologies including React and Kotlin
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams
Demonstrated ability to scale engineering organizations in high-growth environments

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree or MBA
Experience modernizing legacy systems and leading end-to-end digital transformation efforts
Familiarity with personalization and intelligent automation solutions
Experience in site reliability, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production readiness
Understanding of digital security and compliance in consumer technology environments

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for up to 8 hours a day; ability to use hands and fingers to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to navigate; Vision sufficient to view small details on a computer monitor
Ability to stand and walk up to 3 hours a day
Ability to hear and verbally communicate using a telephone handset and/or connected headset device

WORKING CONDITIONS

Regular business hours. Some additional hours may be required.
Travel requirements: Negligible
Climate-controlled office environment during normal business hours.
Regular attendance and punctuality required
