Role Overview – Remote but must be local to Suffolk County NY tocome in on an as needed basis They are seeking a Firmware Engineerto lead the modernization and future-proofing of our embeddedsystems. You will be responsible for converting legacy firmware tomodern C++, supporting new product trials, enabling next-genfeatures (CANBUS, OTA, Wi-Fi), and delivering high-qualitydocumentation and testing. This is a hands-on engineering roleinvolving embedded firmware development, hardware interfacing, andcross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities Analyze andReview Existing Systems :
Understand and evaluate existing firmware(currently in BASIC) and hardware for stability, reliability, anduse-case coverage. Firmware Re-Implementation in C++ : Rewriteexisting firmware using C++ for the ATXMEGA64A4U-AUmicrocontroller, ensuring functional parity and improvedmaintainability.
Testing & Validation :
Rigorously test firmwareand hardware systems to ensure repeatability and performance acrossvarious operating conditions.
Support Product Trials :
Providetechnical assistance during trial deployments to validatefunctionality and gather user feedback.
Documentation & Diagrams :
Produce comprehensive technical documentation including statediagrams, test plans, and firmware specs.
Onsite Collaboration :
Support hardware and system integration at our West Sayvillefacility as needed during project phases.
Future Development :
Support firmware and hardware implementation for CANBUSintegration. Enable OTA updates and Wi-Fi-based remote monitoringfor fleet management. Assist in prototyping and testing futureproduct variants. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree inElectrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. 3years of hands-on embedded firmware development experience inC/C++. Experience with 8-bit or 16-bit microcontrollers, preferablyAtmel (ATXMEGA series). Strong understanding of embedded systemsdesign, debugging, and testing. Ability to read and interpretelectrical schematics and system-level documentation. Familiaritywith CANBUS protocols, OTA update architectures, and Wi-Fi modulesa plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills, includingtechnical documentation. Preferred Skills Experience with legacyfirmware migration projects. Exposure to hybrid equipment powermanagement or safety systems. Familiarity with EMC/EMI testing forvehicle-mounted electronics.
