Minimum Requirements Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar technical role within a church or live production environment. A degree in Audio Engineering, Music Technology, or a related field is preferred but not required. Proficiency in audio, video, projection, and lighting systems, with a strong understanding of signal flow and troubleshooting. Role Description St Johns Tech Director will serve as a key leader in the worship ministry, responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of worship services and events. This includes managing, maintenance and design of audio, video, projection, lighting and stage systems ensuring high-quality production. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for enhancing worship experiences through technology.
Key Attributes Technical Proficiency :
Expertise in audio engineering, sound mixing, and familiarity with video, projection and lighting systems. Proficient in using digital audio workstations, mixing consoles, and production software.

Responsibilities Technical Oversight Manage and operate audio, video, projection and lighting systems for all worship services and events. (Yamaha CL5, Chamsys MagicQ, Apple Products, Studio One, Shure ULX-D, etc.) Ensure a distraction free, high-quality worship experience utilizing sound mixing and production, adapting to various worship styles and settings. Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of all technical equipment, including soundboards, microphones, instruments, computers, video equipment, projectors, and lighting rigs. Ensure optimal sound in all environments, particularly in the main sanctuary, from source to output. Troubleshoot audio and video problems quickly and efficiently. Follow service order cueing, multitracks and lighting. Develop strategies to improve quality and usage of campus equipment Team Leadership & Development Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for the tech team, providing ongoing mentorship and development opportunities. Lead regular training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members. Foster a positive and collaborative team culture, encouraging creativity and innovation. Provide spiritual leadership and genuine care for the well-being of technical team members. Service Planning & Execution Collaborate with the Music Minister/Worship Leader and pastoral staff to plan and execute seamless worship services. Attend production meetings to review past services and plan for upcoming ones. Coordinate with the worship team to ensure technical elements align with the service flow and creative vision. Operate as the technical point person, ensuring all technical elements in the service flow are in place and that volunteers are fully engaged. Administrative Duties Develop a technical ministry budget, including equipment purchases, maintenance, and software licenses. Maintain an organized inventory of all technical equipment and ensure compliance with copyright laws and licensing agreements. Keep detailed records of service setups, equipment settings, and technical procedures. Utilize Planning Center or similar software to schedule volunteers and staff for services and events. Recruit, lead and develop Tech/Production team members Program and arrange, or assign, the required systems for St Johns worship (ProPresenter, lighting, platform, multitracks) Innovation & Improvement Explore and implement new technologies and methods to enhance the worship experience. Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in audio, video, and lighting technology. Lead initiatives to improve the quality and efficiency of technical operations. Community Engagement Engage with the congregation to gather feedback and enhance the worship experience. • Support church-wide events, retreats, and outreach initiatives with technical expertise.
