The Network Engineer will work with internal and external teams to gather requirements, provide guidance, and network design and support. This position requires a self-starting, highly technical person that has a deep understanding of network security, SDWAN, routing protocols, good operational network experience, and the ability to isolate, analyze and resolve network issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the secure, stable operation of in-house computer network including planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. Work with internal and external teams to design, implement, and support the enterprise network infrastructure including SDWAN, cloud networking, datacenter networking, site-level networking, and network security. Work with remote network engineers to support the networking and telecom needs of their partner companies while working toward centralizing networking services. Experience in Cisco routers and switches (Catalyst and Nexus series), Cisco Catalyst SDWAN, Sophos firewalls, Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco firewalls, load balancing, cloud networking, manage and design network infrastructures, and configuring enterprise LAN, WAN and VPN technologies. Knowledge of Cisco proprietary and open industry-standard network protocols (802.1q, 802.1x, STP, OSPF, EIGRP, PAGP, LACP, VRRP, etc.) and experience implementing them in an enterprise network. Experience with BGP and working with multiple ISPs is a plus. Must be familiar with IP addressing and subnetting, and WAN technologies such as MPLS, Wireless, IPSec, VPN, Metro Ethernet, etc. Must have common knowledge of ACLs, etherchannels, IPSEC, QoS, spanning tree, VLANs, VTP, CIDR, VOIP, and NAT. Hands-on experience installing and configuring network hardware including switches, routers, SDWAN, firewalls, VPN appliances, load balancers, and telecommunication devices. Knowledge of cloud networking is a plus. Manage data/voice/SDWAN networking relationships and work with vendors to escalate issues when appropriate. Assist clients in the daily maintenance of voice and data network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VOIP, and NICs. Act as the level 3 support personnel for issues that cannot be resolved by other support tiers. Develop and maintain network documentation including server build docs, configuration standards, and infrastructure architecture. Provide regular status reports on tasks accomplished, current issues, and progress toward goals. Maintain up-to-date documentation of system design, operation, and procedure manuals. Provide capacity, performance, uptime, and security reporting as requested. Implement industry best practices in terms of availability planning, scalability, and change management. Leverage the use of workflow ticketing systems such as ServiceNow. Communicate to business clients, technical teams, and management in a consistent manner to make complex technical issues and solutions clear, simple, and understandable. Work closely with other members of the Information Technology Department to assist with project implementations and other tasks as requested. Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to travel onsite to perform duties in datacenters and sites as required by business needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Licensing/Certification:
BS in Computer Science or Cybersecurity preferred or equivalent work experience. CCNA, MCSE, Azure, AWS, VMware, Microsoft 365, CompTIA Security+, or related information technology certifications are preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in designing, implementing, and supporting IT infrastructure such as routers, switches, SDWAN, firewalls, VMware, and storage. Proven track record of delivering objectives on time and within budget. Previous experience working at an organization focused on M&A efforts is a plus.
