General Statement of DutiesUnder immediate supervision, performs unskilled manual work in the collection and disposal of garbage, brush, white goods, and other disposed items.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Distinguishing Features of the ClassAn employee in this class works as a member of a sanitation crew led by a driver. This employee is responsible for loading an open body truck, assisting the driver in disposing of waste at the landfill, and performing other related work. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the crew leader and the director of public works. Work is reviewed for the ability to follow directions, accurate completion of assigned tasks in a safe and timely manner, and clean-up of equipment. Positions in this classification are not exempt from the overtime pay requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Illustrative Examples of WorkCollects and loads garbage, brush, white goods, and other disposed items into truck.

Informs crew leader and/or supervisor of any problems or issues.

Washes and cleans sanitation equipment and assists in maintenance of equipment.

Sprays trucks with disinfectant.

Washes, waxes, and polishes exterior portions of a truck as needed.

Maintains good relationships with the public through respect to individual property.

Other related duties as assigned.

Be able to deliver trash and recycle containers.
