Job Description

Utility Site Attendant 3.5 3.5 out of 5 stars Wingate, NC 28174 JOB Under limited supervision, collecting waste disposal fees and maintaining a neat, organized collection site. Directs the flow of traffic in the site and provides information to customers. Must have good customer service skills and be able to work in all types of weather. Reports to the Union County Solid Waste Collections Supervisor.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Assists customers by identifying solid waste material type, determining the appropriate cost, and appropriate disposal. Distinguishes waste material from recyclable materials and offers instruction to customers as to proper sorting and disposal. Takes the lead role when working with part-time employees at the Solid Waste Management Facility. Maintains a clean workstation at the convenience center. Distinguishes refuse from recyclable materials and offers instruction to customers as to proper sorting and disposal.

Picks up spilled debris and maintains a clean area around the convenience site property.

Calculates garbage fee totals (on the spot) and provides correct change to customers. Counts cash collected, keeps a daily log, and follows all Union County Cash Handling Procedures.

Responds to customer inquiries and provides information regarding items acceptable and unacceptable at the Union County Convenience Center at the Solid Waste Management Facility.

Operations a variety of landscaping and light grounds-maintenance machinery. Regular duties include removal of litter from worksite and along county roadways.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION PHYSICAL

DEMANDSMust be physically able to operate a motor vehicle, variety of light site-maintenance equipment, hand tools, and office equipment including cash registers, calculators, radios, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert a moderate amount of force constantly, and up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, to move objects. Moderate work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Moderate Work. WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the need to be sensitive to users’ needs and responsive to changing goals, priorities, needs, and processes. Employee may be exposed to dust, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
