Job Description

Residential Driver Job Summary:

Residential Drivers are responsible for the collection and hauling of waste, yard debris, and recyclables from Residential customers. The driver is responsible for understanding and performing all assigned duties on residential routes. Residential Drivers will need to navigate driveways, and traffic filled roadways. The driver assists in the training and development of the Thrower (when applicable) that is assigned to him/her on any regular and/or temporary basis. Addresses customer concerns when necessary, in a polite and courteous manner. Professionally interact, communicate, and take direction from office personnel and dispatchers. Work in this class requires the ability to work under limited supervision and to make decisions and work independently.

Physical Requirements:

8-12 hour shifts.

Sitting 8-10 hours or more per day.

Lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds without assistance.

The following requirements are determined. Climbing up and down on trucks.

Pushing, pulling, and bending.

Essential Functions:

Follow safe operating practices. Operate manual levers and/or switches that compress the collected refuse and discharges it from the body of the truck in accordance with the truck model and company safety policies and procedures.

Provide prompt, courteous and complete services to residential customers.

Perform complete pre-trip and post-trip truck inspections and post-trip cleaning, including, but not limited to, checking tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges and controls.

Continuously monitor the condition of the vehicle to ensure it is operationally ready at all times.

Report any vehicle operating malfunctions, and/or needed repairs to your Supervisor immediately.

Operate residential trucks in congested city, highway and disposal areas.

Ensure proper tarping (if applicable) of vehicles to prevent loss of contents during transport.100% on the job training.

Be familiar with DOT regulations regarding the safe operation and required DOT documentation (including the daily Drivers Log) required while driving his/her truck.

Communicate with and take direction from office personnel dispatching outgoing loads.

Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of hydraulic systems.

Ability to work independently with minimum direction.

Ability to read, understand and follow standard operating procedures. Accurately complete daily logs, reports, and vehicle inspections. Basic understanding of OSHA Lock Out Tag Out program and all OSHA Fire protection regulations.

Physical, Mental, and Visual Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time.

Stoop, bend, crouch, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, grip, feel, and perform repetitive motions.

Exerts up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Requires work outdoors under varying climatic conditions, including inclement weather.

Must communicate verbally, see physical surroundings, hear others and demonstrate good communication skills.

Participation in the companys Drug Free Work Place (DFWP) policy, including testing requirements, is mandatory.

Any citationsincluding tickets, fines and court appearancesreceived while in the performance of company-assigned duties that involve driving infractions will be the sole responsibility of the driver.

Requirements:

Possess a valid NYS CDL.Must have a valid DOT Medical Card, or valid exemption.

Must pass a background investigation and drug screen.

Minimum two years satisfactory driving experience and a clean driving record.

Must pass written and road test evaluation(s), as required.

No suspensions or revocations due to a moving violation or accident within two years.

No DUI (driving under the influence) convictions within four years.
