G-200•Paraprofessional Aide•Bus/Van Aide
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Prior experience working with children as a volunteer, instructional aide or other paid employment desirable.
REPORTS TO
Dispatchers under the direction of Director of Transportation
JOB GOAL
In cooperation with the assigned bus or van driver, the paraprofessional may assist in and reinforce student behavior, development of language skills, and social skills. Ability and willingness to assist with the development of student social skills, self-discipline and survival techniques based on individual needs. Exhibit good use of the English language. Understand and follow written and verbal school administrator and/or bus or van driver directions. Communicate effectively with students and/or adults. Establish rapport with students and maintain their collectivity and calmness in other than normal situations. Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with children and adults. Apply common sense and good judgment. Act responsibly in emergency situations to assist students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the bus/van driver in maintaining appropriate student conduct on the vehicle.
Assures that all students have seat belts fastened when riding on a bus/van.
Assists the driver with helping wheelchair students on and off the vehicle.
Ensures that wheelchairs and other mobility aids are securely fastened.
Assists drivers in preparing and providing written records of violations of the student code to the Dispatcher or Director of Transportation. Collects and provides to the school secretary those personal items left on the school bus.
Maintains confidentiality of students and related family information.
Attends workshops and/or inservice training by the assigned department.
Witnesses the actions of students and provide input regarding their behavior to certificated personnel.
In cooperation with the bus/van driver, the paraprofessional assists students prior to, during and immediately after district transportation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education. This position is part of the Wayne Paraprofessional Association.
ANNUAL EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of non-certificated staff.
