Nursing programs partner with a variety of clinical practice settings to provide student nurses expert clinical training. This essential partnership assures students are prepared to provide quality patient care. Within these practice sites, staff registered nurses (RNs) provide nursing students rich clinical learning experiences within a safe yet challenging learning environment. These RNs are identified as Nurse Preceptors. While many clinical practice sites have programs that prepare staff nurses to precept new employees, most programs do not include specific preparation for working with nursing students. This Preceptor Development Program is designed to prepare registered nurses to construct high quality, rich, and effective learning experiences. Staff RNs who participate in preceptor development programs report more confidence and satisfaction in the preceptor role. This effect translates to the student’s learning as well. Students who have well prepared clinical preceptors describe effective and valued learning experiences. Topic areas covered in these modules include: 1. Preceptor roles and responsibilities 2. Assessing learner needs and learning styles 3. Clinical teaching 4. Critical thinking and clinical decision making 5. Legal issues in preceptorships 6. Communication and conflict resolution 7. Managing learning experiences of culturally and generationally diverse students Verified learners may receive 8 continuing education units (CE's) from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. The University of Maryland School of Nursing is an accredited provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Welcome to the Nursing Preceptor Education Program (NPEP), founded by Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine (Lunder-Dineen) a division of the he Peter L. Slavin, MD Academy for Applied Learning in Health Care (Slavin Academy) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Lunder-Dineen was established to provide education to health care professionals tailored to address critical public health and workforce issues. In 2015, Lunder-Dineen led by a statewide Advisory Team of nurse leaders across Maine and MGH established the original program titled the Maine Nursing Preceptor Education Program, as a solution to the paucity of formally trained nurse preceptors in Maine. Its overarching goal is to advance and support the recruitment, integration, satisfaction, and retention of nursing students, new nurses, and transitioning nurses across the continuum of care The demand for preceptor education is not unique to Maine. In 2023, with the support of MGH Institute of Health Professions School of Nursing (MGH IHP SoN), as co-sponsors, the blended learning program was redesigned with dynamic and intuitive online modules and interactive synchronous workshop sessions. These enhancements were meticulously incorporated to reflect the multifaceted roles of nurse preceptors. A major resource for course planning has been the seminal work of Beth Ulrich, EdD, RN, FACHE, FAONL, FAAN. Ulrich's book, Mastering Precepting (2023), serves as a cornerstone resource for nurse preceptors seeking to expand their expertise in the precepting role. The program is structured with 7 asynchronous modules with an estimated time to complete of ~8 hours and 2 half-day live virtual workshops (~8 hours). Today, Lunder-Dineen, the Slavin Academy and the IHP SoN, with support from MGH Nursing and Patient Care Services, are proud to offer the asynchronous portion of this course in an on-demand format, via this featured course on EdX with continuing education credit for nurses across the globe provided through the MGH IHP SoN. Following completion of the modules you may be eligible to enroll in the live virtual workshops typically held 1-2 times per year. At the end of this course, you will find more details regarding the workshop and enrollment process.

Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, The 2022 Nursing Leadership Webinar Series: When Nurse Leaders Speak, Legislators Listen, 5/10/2022 12:00:00 PM - 5/10/2025 1:00:00 PM, We know that legislation affects healthcare costs, decision-making, and overall health-related choices for our patients and ourselves. Politicians must often make decisions on proposed bills with limited knowledge of the impact they can have on patient populations, healthcare, and healthcare organizations. Based on Gallup poll results, nurses have been chosen as the number one trusted profession for twenty years in a row. As respected health care professionals, we are able to draw on our expertise – and reputation - to support appropriate legislation. We can contribute personal experiences as professionals in healthcare to address any number of proposed bills by making calls, writing letters, or providing written or in-person testimony. Nursing organizations, such as the New Hampshire Nurses Association (NHNA), not only serve as guides in this work, but offer opportunities to help us learn more and take action. As nurse leaders, we have a significant role to play in the future of healthcare. We encourage you to join us and learn more about the importance of all nurses becoming more aware and involved in legislation that can affect their profession and practice. Presenters Polly K.
