Position Title:
1.0 Elementary ELA Curriculum Leader Grades 3-4

Summary:
Curriculum leaders serve a vital role in the instructional program and primarily develop a program within their area of expertise. They are responsible for coordinating curriculum meetings and further program development in collaboration with administration and with staff across the District. The incumbent is under the guidance of and at the direction of designated administration. Any recommendations, suggestions, or proposed action will be submitted to the K-12 curriculum and instructional panel.
Responsibilities:
A Curriculum Leader will assume the responsibility for the development, the revisions and the constant evaluation of curriculum, and assessment. Carry out their responsibilities with adherence to all applicable Board policies. Assumes the shared responsibility with the curriculum panel for the development, revisions and constant evaluation of curriculum programs and assessments that may result in proposed changes based on current data and educational best practices and/or research. Knowledge of all materials and practices in use including the current textbooks, workbooks, software, literature, teaching techniques, assessment practices, aids-in-teaching, equipment, supplies and tools. Collaborate with their committee, department, or a specific grade level, they should make recommendations for changes, improvements, and enhancements in their curricular area. Prepare and oversee the yearly budgets for their content area. Responsible for the equipment and supplies in their areas, which could include ordering and requisitioning of equipment and supplies, the keeping of an inventory of all equipment, supplies, textbooks, technological hardware, teaching aids, etc., the distribution of equipment and teaching aids among their committee/department, and the security of the equipment shall be their responsibility. Provide guidance and direction to new teachers. Assist teachers in the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Responsible for professional development training as it relates to curriculum analysis and development, instruction strategies, assessment practices, and materials selection. Share the responsibility with the curriculum panel for proposing changes in the curriculum and keeping abreast of the total school curriculum. Assist teachers who may request help. This may be done through help in planning lessons, observing the teacher in the classroom, etc. Assist in the hiring process by potentially interviewing applicants, and observing demonstration lessons when deemed appropriate by administration. Assist with classroom observation and for providing suggestions for the improvement of instruction upon the request of teachers. Conduct curriculum meetings in accordance with the contract. Plan professional development offerings for the summer and as needed throughout the school year. Attend leadership meetings as planned by administration. Work extended hours and additional 20 days beyond the teacher's work year. The curriculum leader's summer responsibilities are: Planning and supervision of summer workshops and professional development offerings including tracking and submitting hours for pay, flex-time, and/or Act 48 credit. Evaluation, organization, and distribution of curriculum materials. Evaluation of instructional program and oversee updates to the District's curriculum management system for area of oversight Planning and organizing the plans for the next school year. Completing any tasks as assigned by administration.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with appropriate teaching certification in the identified content area Masters degree in education (preferred). A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in Upper St. Clair School District AND the respective content area
