QUALIFICATIONS
Iowa Teaching Certification - Elementary or Secondary Special Education Endorsement required MA in education administration or special education administration required Experience as a building principal or special education administrator Demonstrated ability to work with people Strong organizational skills Extensive knowledge and experience in the special education area K-12 school district central office administrative experience preferred Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

District Level Special Education Staff
JOB GOAL
(S): Responsible for the administration and implementation of the district's special education programs with a goal of providing every child a free and appropriate public education in order to enhance the district's special education programs, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership in the development of district special education programs based on effective student learning practices and state and federal laws and regulations Implement recommendations from the district's special education program improvement plan - aligns the district's special services, programs, plans, and actions to the district's special education service delivery plan Oversee state and federal compliance of special education programs Monitor student achievement of special education students using district assessments, progress monitoring and alternate assessments Monitor implementation and compliance of special education services/ programs with state and federal laws, professional practices and high achieving comparable districts Provide leadership for professional development for special education teachers and paraeducators in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction Assist in coordinating GWAEA services and district services Coordinate special education site accreditation reviews (state and federal) Conduct management information presentations to the Board of Directors Direct the District Special Education Parent Advisory Committee and Parent/District ASD Collaborative Team Serve as a liaison to parents in resolving concerns in a timely manner Promote special education programs to the community and cooperate with community organizations and support groups with common interests Supervise district level special education staff Assist the assistant superintendent in the development of the special education budget and approve purchases. Assist the assistant superintendent in teacher and paraeducator staffing of special education programs Manage special education fiscal resources of the district responsibly, efficiently, and effectively Work with the Chief Operations Officer to coordinate transportation services Approve contracts for out of district students Monitor extended school year services Assist the Human Resources Department in ensuring appropriate certification of special education teachers Conducts, in conjunction with GWAEA, periodic program evaluation of the District's special education instructional programs to ensure that every child requiring special education services receives appropriate services Maintain appropriate records and protect the confidentiality of data Participate in state, regional, and national committees, bringing information back to the district, informing administrators, special education teachers, and paraeducators regarding updates in special education Other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve month, 260 day contract. Salary and calendar year to be established by the School Board.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District's policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
