DESCRIPTION:
Millbury Junior-Senior High School is seeking a dynamic and innovative English Language Arts Teacher to join our secondary-level teaching team. The ideal candidate is passionate about literacy, critical thinking, and student voice, and is committed to designing engaging, rigorous, and culturally responsive learning experiences. This educator will inspire students to read deeply, write thoughtfully, speak confidently, and think critically across a variety of texts and contexts. We are looking for an educator who thrives in a collaborative environment, builds strong relationships with students, and creates meaningful connections between literature, writing, and the world students live in. The successful candidate will support students in developing essential communication and analytical skills necessary for college, career, and civic life. QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Massachusetts DESE teaching license in English (5-12) or related content area, or eligibility for licensure SEI Endorsement required (or ability to acquire immediately) Strong content knowledge in literature, writing, grammar, and composition Demonstrated ability to teach a range of learners in a heterogeneous classroom setting Experience with culturally responsive teaching practices and inclusive curriculum design Strong understanding of adolescent literacy development, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening Demonstrated ability to design and implement engaging, standards-aligned lessons and assessments Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to building positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues Experience in planning and facilitating both whole-class and small-group instruction Familiarity with instructional technology tools, Google Workspace, and digital learning platforms Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or additional certifications preferred
GENERAL DUTIES
Function as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team Analyze individual student data and use that information to develop measurable goals, objectives, and corresponding lessons/units Teach a variety of ELA courses across grades 7-12, including literature, composition, and integrated language arts Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, close reading, and effective communication Create opportunities for writing across genres, discussion-based learning, and authentic performance tasks Foster a classroom environment that promotes student voice, inquiry, and a love of reading and writing Utilize varied instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including English learners and students with disabilities Implement formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction Provide timely, actionable feedback to support student growth in reading, writing, and communication skills Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and support school-wide instructional goals Integrate literacy strategies across content areas and support interdisciplinary learning opportunities Establish and maintain a classroom culture that promotes respect, responsibility, and academic risk-taking Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff to support student achievement Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, school events, and committees as needed Perform other professional duties as outlined and requested by the building Principal
