Job Details
TK is a kindergarten program for children not yet age five who do not have access to high-quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten. In addition, deemed by a school district, through a screening process and/or other instrument(s), to be in need of additional preparation to be successful in kindergarten the following year. Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a variety of learning experiences for students in cooperation with other staff members. Responsible for the learning experience for students; demonstrates knowledge of subject matter demonstrates competency in instructional skills; informs student of their progress; handles discipline and attendance problems; evaluates in terms of planned goals and revises instruction because of the evaluation. Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with state regulations, district policies and procedures and building practices.

Serve children up to five years old enrolled in a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classroom.TK is a kindergarten program for children not yet age five who do not have access to high-quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten. In addition, deemed by a school district, through a screening process and/or other instrument(s), to be in need of additional preparation to be successful in kindergarten the following year. Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a variety of learning experiences for students in cooperation with other staff members. Responsible for the learning experience for students; demonstrates knowledge of subject matter demonstrates competency in instructional skills; informs student of their progress; handles discipline and attendance problems; evaluates in terms of planned goals and revises instruction because of the evaluation. Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with state regulations, district policies and procedures and building practices.
Major Responsibilities:
Implement state essential learning and district standards Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and competency in instructional practices Informs students of their progress in terms of objectives set for the lesson or study course, handles student discipline and attendance problems. Evaluates in terms of planned goals and revises instruction as a result of the evaluation, makes long and short range plans for each subject area of instruction Provides for individual differences in the learning needs of students, provides a classroom climate which is based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency Interacts positively with students, professional associates, parents and patrons of the school district Participates in staff development activities Performs job related, non-teaching duties Participates as a team member in planning curriculum, instruction and procedures Provide guidance and supervise instructional aides if so assigned. Collaborates with the District Early Learning Team. Participates in Project Based and Intentional Play Based Learning professional development opportunities. Ability to analyze student data to inform instruction. Attend/supervise student field trips. Maintain professional boundaries with students. Willingness to attend professional development that may include travel, including overnight staysQualifications:
Valid Washington Teaching Certificate, Early Childhood Education endorsement preferred, and/or K-8/Elementary. Education with early childhood experience preferred. Successful implementation of English Language Learner strategies preferred such as G.L.A.D. and/or SIOP; training helpful. Knowledge of Washington State Common Core State Standards as they relate to elementary curriculum Knowledge of WAKids program requirements helpful; experience in program implementation preferred. Experience in, or knowledge of TS Gold assessment system helpful. Experience interpreting data from: WaKids, NWEA and program assessments to make instructional and student placement decisions. Understanding of Whole Brain teaching strategies and successful incorporation into instructional delivery preferred. Background knowledge and or experiences with creating and implementing project based learning opportunities for young children. Experience and/or training working with diverse learning capabilities ranging from special education through gifted including at-risk students. Ability to successfully prepare students for the transition into Kindergarten. Demonstrated interest, commitment, and ability to work positively with students at the early elementary level. Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to decision-making in collaboration with administrators and other staff members. Experience working with elementary PLCs to make curricular and instructional decisions Understanding/Knowledge of Danielson Instructional Frameworks and ability to incorporate dimensions in daily teaching practices. Knowledge of/training in Second Step SEL Curriculum, Ready Rosie, PBIS, and Balanced Literacy programs preferred. Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the instructional delivery Second language or language acquisition background or abilities preferred Student cultural and economic diversity experience, preferred Acknowledgment This Job description is intended to provide an overview of the requirements of the position.
