Job Title:
Summer Meal Program Worker Reports to: Summer Program Manager / Child Nutrition Director Job Description The Summer Meals Program Worker assists with the preparation, packing, service, and distribution of nutritious meals for children participating in the summer feeding program. This position plays an important role in ensuring meals are prepared safely, distributed accurately, and served in a welcoming environment for children and families. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with preparing food and assembling meals according to program meal patterns and instructions Pack multi-day meal bags and verify correct meal counts Serve meals to children at summer meal sites in a friendly and professional manner Assist with distributing meal bags to families during scheduled pick-up times Verify meal rosters and maintain accurate meal count records Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures Maintain clean work areas, equipment, and storage areas Assist with stocking, organizing, loading, and unloading food and supplies Work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, children, families, and community members Follow directions and complete assigned tasks efficiently and safely Perform other duties as assigned to support the Summer Meals Program Training and Certification Training will be provided for food safety procedures and meal program requirements Employees will be given the opportunity to obtain a Food Handler Certification Certification must be completed within two (2) weeks of the start date Qualifications Ability to read instructions and count accurately up to 100 Ability to verify meal rosters and meal counts accurately Ability to work well with others in a team environment Ability to follow instructions and maintain a positive attitude Ability to interact positively with children, families, and the public Reliable attendance and punctuality required Physical Requirements Ability to stand and work for 6-8 hours per day Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds Ability to work in both hot and cold environments, including kitchens, storage areas, and outdoor meal sites Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions as needed Work Environment Work may take place in school kitchens, cafeterias, outdoor meal sites, storage areas, and delivery locations. Employees should be prepared to work in fast-paced environments while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and professionalism at all times.
