Job Description

Pay:
$37 - $42 per hour Position Summary The School-Based Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides occupational therapy services to students under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The COTA supports students in developing functional skills that enhance participation in academic activities, daily school routines, and the educational environment in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Essential Responsibilities Therapy Implementation Implement occupational therapy intervention plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist. Provide individual and small-group services aligned with IEP goals. Support development of fine motor, sensory processing, self-care, visual-motor, and functional school participation skills. Assist students in using adaptive strategies and tools to improve independence. Data Collection & Documentation Collect and record data on student performance during therapy sessions. Maintain service logs and progress information for review by the supervising Occupational Therapist. Report observations and student responses to intervention accurately and promptly. Classroom & Environmental Support Assist with positioning, seating, and environmental adaptations to support student access to learning. Support use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology as directed. Promote carryover of therapy strategies within classroom routines and school activities. Collaboration Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and administrators. Participate in team meetings and professional development as directed. Support generalization of skills across educational settings. Professional & Ethical Practice Adhere to supervision guidelines and scope of practice established by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and state regulations. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policies. Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain certification. Qualifications Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Current state licensure or certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. National certification as a COTA, if required by the state. Ability to implement therapy plans under supervision. Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a school or pediatric setting. Familiarity with sensory supports, adaptive equipment, and classroom-based interventions. Knowledge of special education processes and IEP implementation. Commitment to inclusive practices and student-centered support. Working Conditions School-based environment including classrooms, therapy spaces, and common areas. May require travel between school sites within the district. Frequent interaction with students requiring physical and sensory support. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the school day. Ability to assist students with positioning, mobility, and functional tasks. Ability to demonstrate therapeutic activities and use of adaptive equipment. #INDEDU2
