Job Title:
Mill Operator Job Description This role focuses on operating CNC milling equipment to produce cylinder heads for recreational airplanes. You will handle and process metal components throughout the production cycle, ensuring they meet precise specifications and quality standards. The position combines hands-on mechanical work, basic measurement and inspection, and accurate documentation of completed tasks and any defects. Responsibilities Operate CNC mills to manufacture cylinder heads according to established procedures and specifications, without performing machine setups. Lift, move, and handle cylinder heads weighing approximately 20-30 pounds throughout the workday in a safe and controlled manner. Grind and deburr parts, particularly in and around flange areas, to remove sharp edges and achieve required finishes. Measure and inspect parts using micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances. Document completed work and any defects accurately in both computer systems and on travelers or other production documentation. Use hand tools, grinders, and measurement tools effectively to support machining and finishing operations. Follow blueprints and production instructions, when available, to ensure parts meet design and quality requirements. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures in the shop environment. Essential Skills Experience operating CNC mills or CNC machining equipment in a production or shop environment. Ability to lift and handle parts weighing approximately 20-30 pounds repeatedly throughout the day. Basic proficiency using micrometers and calipers to measure and inspect machined parts. Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools, grinders, and measurement tools. Ability to accurately document work performed and defects in both computer systems and on paper travelers. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards in a machining environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Formal CNC schooling or training in CNC machining. Interest in further developing a career in CNC machining and expanding technical skills. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a well-lit, climate-controlled machine shop that features a mix of older and newer CNC milling machines. You will work around standard shop equipment, including CNC mills, grinders, and measurement tools, in a straightforward, practical production setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fridley, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
