Aug 31, 2026 Job Description SWIFT Academic Teacher Swampscott High School | Swampscott Public Schools Position Overview Swampscott High School is seeking a compassionate and structured educator to serve as the SWIFT Academic Teacher. SWIFT is an essential temporary "bridge" program designed to provide academic, organizational, and emotional support for students returning to school after a long-term absence due to complex challenges such as psychiatric hospitalization, medical issues, or concussions. In this role, your primary function will be to provide the targeted academic scaffolding necessary to help these students successfully reintegrate into their regular school routines. Because vulnerable students navigating sensitive re-entry transitions rely heavily on consistency, routine, and a dependable advocate, punctuality and reliable, consistent attendance are absolute essentials for this role. Guided by the district's C.O.R.E. values—Community, Opportunity, Respect, and Equity—you will work under the direction of the building administration to cultivate a supportive environment where students feel safe, valued, and empowered to regain their academic footing. Performance Responsibilities Academic Case Management & Support
Individualized Planning:
Develop and implement the academic component of the overall case management plan for each student enrolled in the SWIFT program, tailoring expectations to their unique medical or emotional needs.
Executive Function Coaching:
Provide intensive executive function coaching, academic scaffolding, and organizational support to help students manage their workloads and ease back into full-time schooling.
Progress Tracking:
Establish and maintain a rigorous system for tracking incomplete work, modified assignments, and overall academic progress for each student.
Technology Utilization:
Utilize Google Classroom and G-Suite Apps effectively to coordinate, retrieve, and manage schoolwork from the students' regular subject-area classes. Clinical & Staff Collaboration
Holistic Co-Management:
Work intensively and daily with the SWIFT Clinical Coordinator (School Psychologist) to collaboratively support the holistic mental health and emotional well-being of each student.
Multidisciplinary Communication:
Proactively communicate with general education teachers, guidance counselors, and school administrators regarding the academic requirements, modifications, progress, and status of each student in the program.
Welcoming Environment:
Create and maintain a welcoming, positive, empathetic, and highly structured classroom climate that pairs emotional safety with high expectations for student resilience. Professional Reliability
Consistent Attendance:
Maintain punctuality and consistent attendance to ensure the SWIFT program remains an unwavering, dependable sanctuary for students returning from crisis. Job Requirements Required Qualifications
Licensure:
Valid Massachusetts DESE Teaching License.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Core Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to teach and support students struggling with a complex array of challenges; deep compassion and empathy for youth undergoing difficult life events.
Technical Skills:
Technological expertise in Google Classroom and G-Suite Apps.
Compliance:
Successful completion of a Massachusetts CORI and fingerprint-based background check. Preferred Qualifications Specific knowledge and verified experience with executive function coaching strategies and lesson scaffolding. Experience working within an alternative learning program, bridge program, or therapeutic school setting. Such additional qualifications as Swampscott High School may find appropriate and acceptable.
