Communications Officer Salary Range:

$41,746 - $42,786 annually Position Overview The City of Decatur is seeking an E911 Communications Officer to join our Police Department. This role involves answering emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police, fire, and other emergency services, and monitoring radio and computer systems. Communications Officers operate 24/7 to ensure the safety of our community. Responsibilities Answer emergency and non-emergency calls; obtain vital information; refer callers or contact agencies for assistance. Operate two-way radios to support officers; monitor alarms; dispatch personnel, vehicles, and equipment as needed. Maintain and update logs, reports, and records. Operate

GCIC/NCIC

systems to input and retrieve information on stolen property, missing persons, and criminal histories. Enter incident and accident reports, citations, and process according to procedures. Handle payments for fines, bonds, and parking tickets; issue receipts and deposits. Assist Clerk of Court with court calendars, warrants, criminal histories, and case assembly. Perform general office duties such as filing, copying, and distributing reports. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to learn and apply public safety rules, regulations, and procedures. Clear communication skills; ability to remain calm under pressure. Knowledge of city geography preferred. Proficiency in typing and basic math. Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills. Requirements Must be at least 18 years old. Must obtain terminal operator certification within 6 months. Must obtain P.O.S.T. Communications Officer certification within 12 months. Must be available for rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
