Academic Support SpecialistPrimary Purpose:
The Academic Support Specialist manages and operates the Academic Support Center, serving as a dedicated resource for students who need additional instructional support, a structured environment to complete assignments and assessments, or extended time accommodations. This role also provides academic task support to classroom teachers, helping to reinforce learning and promote student success across K-8 grade levels.Status:
Full Time Position - This position is designated as an hourly employee who works under the direct supervision of the Principal or designee per School Board Policy, School Rules and Regulations.Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent; Flexibility with change of tasks and/or assignments; Previous experience working with children and adolescents in educational or academic support settings; Knowledge of differentiated instructional strategies and academic support techniques; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Proficiency with student information systems and basic computer applications; Ability to remain calm and focused in a structured work environment; Understanding of FERPA and student confidentiality requirements.Preferred:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education or related field; Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs; Familiarity with reading, writing, and math interventions; Training in study skills instruction or academic coaching.Certification Required:

NoneKey Task, Duty, Responsibility Areas:
- Operate and maintain the Academic Support Center as a welcoming, organized, and distraction-free environment for student learning
- Provide individualized or small-group academic support to students across K-8 grade levels all subject areas
- Administer and proctor assessments and assignments for students requiring extended time, reduced distraction settings, or other academic accommodations
- Assist students in organizing, managing, and completing assignments, projects, and long-term tasks
- Document all student visits and support services accurately in the ALMA Student Information System
- Communicate with teachers and administrators regarding student progress, participation, and academic needs
- Coordinate with teachers, counselors, special educators, and intervention staff to align academic support with individual student plans
- Assist in reinforcing classroom instruction and supporting students in applying learning strategies
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information and academic records
- Follow all referral and scheduling protocols established by the building leadership team
Knowledge, Skills, and Talents:
- Requires knowledge of school rules, practices, and law; NH Department of Education rules and school requirements; and School Board policy.
- Requires demonstration of strong collaborative, observational, and instructional support skills; problem-solving skills to support student academic success; service-oriented interpersonal skills; verbal and written communication skills; organizational skills; proficiency with office equipment and instructional technology; and skills in student data management, reporting, and communication.
- Requires excellent attention to detail and follow-through to meet school district requirements, significant confidentiality responsibilities related to student academic and assessment data, and resource management within the support center environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work at a desk; regularly convey information to school employees and the public; regularly move about inside/outside the main building and inside an office to access file cabinets and office machinery; and traverse stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds, such as supplies, folders, and books. Ability to operate a keyboard and calculator at efficient speed and to view computer screens for extended periods of time. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.Sub-Roles Required:

Evaluation will be based on ability and effectiveness in carrying out the responsibilities of the position as defined. Performance will be reviewed semi-annually (December and March) by the assigned supervisor in accordance with School Board policy.Background Check:
