The Opportunity At Starker Forests, Inc., accounting and forestry operations are deeply intertwined. As our Accountant , your work will tell the financial story of our land, from timber harvest and log sales to financial close, analysis, and reporting. It's all connected and understanding that connection is what makes this role so rewarding. We're looking for a strong accounting professional who brings solid fundamentals and a sharp analytical mind. Log accounting is a specialty you'll develop here, and one that sets this opportunity apart from a typical accounting role. As you develop expertise in our operations, there is potential for expanded responsibility within the accounting team, making this a long-term opportunity. What You'll Do Log Accounting Enter and manage logging contracts with detailed pricing structures and mill purchase orders. Analyze species and grade data to ensure timber is directed to the correct mills per the associated contracts. Track daily harvest and sales data and maintain sort yard inventory reconciliation. Create logger payments and reconcile receipts and financial records. Full-Cycle Accounting Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and perform regular bank reconciliations. Manage fixed asset schedules and process intercompany transactions across multiple entities. Participate in month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals. Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports. Correctly classify transactions in accordance with GAAP and company policy. Assist with preparation of tax return and financial statement review. Support budgeting and forecasting. CFO Support & Projects Serve as a key resource to the CFO on financial analysis, reporting, and special projects. Take independent ownership of assigned projects and deliver accurate, timely results. Apply sound judgment and creative problem-solving to complex accounting matters.
What We're Looking For Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or Associate's degree with equivalent experience. 3+ years of experience in accounting or a related financial role. Working knowledge of GAAP and basic tax concepts, including the ability to correctly classify transactions and analyze financial statements. Experience with month-end and/or year-end close processes. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.Preferred:
Experience with log accounting, timber, or natural resource industry accounting. Familiarity with Paragon (log accounting software) and/or Sage.
