Job Description
Controller / Financial Operations Manager Position Summary Industrial Compressor Solutions is seeking a highly disciplined, detail-oriented Controller / Financial Operations Manager to lead the financial integrity, accountability, and operational financial performance of the company. This role is not simply bookkeeping or transactional accounting. This position is responsible for protecting the financial health of the business, driving continuous improvement, enforcing financial discipline, and ensuring accurate, timely, and decision-useful financial information across the organization. The successful candidate must be comfortable professionally challenging leadership decisions, including ownership, when those decisions create unnecessary financial risk, operational inefficiency, cash flow exposure, or accounting inaccuracies. This individual must have the confidence and professionalism to hold the line on financial controls while still operating as a collaborative member of the management team. This role will work closely with ownership, operations, service management, sales, and the company's external accounting firm to maintain accurate books, improve cash flow, strengthen reporting, and support long-term growth. Core Responsibilities Financial Management & Accounting Maintain accurate, timely, and complete financial records with extremely high attention to detail. Own the integrity of the company's general ledger and financial reporting. Ensure monthly financial close processes are completed accurately and on schedule. Coordinate directly with the company's external accounting firm and CPAs.
Prepare and review:
Profit & Loss statements Balance sheets Cash flow reports AP aging AR aging Job costing analysis Departmental financial performance Ensure all accounting entries, accruals, adjustments, and reconciliations are correct and properly documented. Identify accounting errors, process gaps, duplicate spending, billing issues, and financial leakage. Develop and maintain internal financial controls and accountability systems. Accounts Payable & Cash Flow Management Manage and continuously improve accounts payable processes. Protect vendor relationships while maintaining disciplined cash management. Monitor payment schedules, vendor terms, and liabilities. Maintain accurate AP aging and proactively communicate upcoming obligations. Assist leadership in forecasting cash requirements and financial exposure. The company has made significant progress reducing AP aging from over $600,000 to under $100,000 within approximately 15 months. This role is expected to help maintain and continue that positive trajectory through disciplined financial management and operational accountability. Accounts Receivable & Collections Drive AR collections aggressively but professionally. Monitor outstanding receivables daily. Coordinate with customers, operations, service, and sales to eliminate invoicing delays and collection obstacles. Establish accountability systems to improve billing speed and reduce aging. Assist in developing customer-specific collection strategies when necessary. Escalate financial risks early and clearly. Operational & Strategic Financial Support Analyze operational performance and identify opportunities for improved profitability, cash flow, and efficiency. Support pricing, quoting, margin analysis, inventory evaluation, and operational financial decision-making. Assist management in understanding the financial impact of operational behaviors and decisions. Develop KPIs and reporting systems that improve visibility and accountability across the company. Participate in management discussions and provide financially grounded recommendations. Financial Leadership & Accountability Maintain professional independence and financial objectivity. Be willing to professionally challenge decisions, spending, operational habits, or processes that are not in the financial best interest of the company. Help establish a culture of accountability, accuracy, urgency, and operational discipline. Operate with integrity, discretion, and professionalism in all interactions. Required Qualifications Strong accounting and financial management background. Experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior financial operations role. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational discipline.Strong understanding of:
Financial statements AP/AR management Cash flow management Accrual accounting Financial controls Reconciliations Operational accounting Strong communication skills with the ability to professionally push back when necessary. High level of personal accountability and follow-through. Ability to work in a fast-paced small business environment with evolving priorities. Strong Excel and accounting software proficiency. Experience coordinating with external accounting firms and CPAs. Preferred Qualifications Experience in industrial, service, manufacturing, construction, or field-service-based businesses. Experience with inventory management and job costing. Experience improving operational financial systems in growing companies. Familiarity with service dispatching, project billing, equipment sales, or industrial operations.
