Job Description
Cochrum Enterprises LLC, operating Trailer Place and Star Truck Equipment in Wharton, Texas, is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager / Controller to help lead and strengthen the company's accounting function. This is a full-time, on-site role for an experienced accounting professional who can manage day-to-day accounting operations, support accurate financial reporting, supervise accounting support staff, and work closely with the CFO. This position is well suited for someone with strong full-charge bookkeeping, payroll, accounting operations, and supervisory experience, especially in a dealership, equipment, automotive, trailer, RV, powersports, distribution, manufacturing, or other inventory-heavy business environment. The company is growing and strengthening its accounting processes, controls, and reporting discipline, so the right candidate should be comfortable both maintaining the accounting function and improving it over time.
T he Accounting Manager / Controller will oversee core accounting operations and help ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and useful to leadership. The role includes responsibility for accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight, payroll administration, bank reconciliations, cash management, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting support. The position will also support accounting for inventory and sales transactions in a dealership/equipment environment. The Accounting Manager / Controller will work with sales, parts, service, and operations teams as needed to ensure accounting processes properly support the business. The role reports to and works closely with the CFO and will supervise accounting assistants or clerks. Qualified candidates should have at least 5 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related finance experience, including at least 2 years in a senior, full-charge, accounting manager, controller, or supervisory accounting role. Candidates must have strong full-charge bookkeeping experience, payroll administration experience, and the ability to supervise accounting support staff. Candidates must be able to work fully on-site in Wharton, Texas, Monday-Friday during standard business hours. Experience in a dealership, equipment, automotive, trailer, RV, powersports, distribution, manufacturing, or other inventory-heavy business is strongly preferred and will be important to success in this role. A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is preferred but not required if the candidate has strong practical accounting experience. Experience with accounting, payroll, and dealership/inventory systems is helpful. The ideal candidate is accurate, organized, confidential, proactive, and comfortable working in a family-owned/local business environment. This person should be able to communicate clearly with leadership and operational teams, protect sensitive financial, payroll, and employee information, and improve processes without disrupting the team. This is not a purely strategic or advisory controller role. It is a hands-on accounting leadership role for someone who is comfortable owning both higher-level accounting responsibilities and day-to-day accounting operations. The public salary range for this role is $50,000-$70,000 per year, depending on experience. Compensation and benefits will be discussed during the interview process. Employment is contingent on successful background and reference checks. Cochrum Enterprises LLC is an equal opportunity employer and considers qualified applicants without regard to legally protected status.
