Job Description

Job Description As the Accounting Manager, you will oversee all accounting and billing functions. This role is critical in safeguarding the organization's financial well being, assets, and funds, while maintaining detailed financial and project records to support strategic growth. Duties and Responsibilities Financial Management Oversee and manage daily operations of the accounting department, including billing, accounts payable and receivable, and the general ledger Conduct accurate and timely month end reconciliations Maintain insurance amortization and coverage verification Provide guidance to staff and external vendors on accounts payable and receivable procedures Budget and Financial Planning Lead coordination of budget preparation, financial forecasts, and variance reporting Analyze budget to actual variances, including private versus public funding sources, and provide explanations Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports for the management team, board of directors, and key funders Liaise with external contractors to gather required reports per project site Provide budget preparation support for grant applications and fundraising events Track proposals, awards, and contracts to identify funding gaps and future opportunities Assist staff and external contractors in modifying project and operational plans based on funding approvals, rejections, spending limits, and project requirements Financial Reporting and Compliance Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements Track investments, reconcile accounts, manage donations including in kind services and material costs, and track endowments Manage annual audit and tax preparation processes Ensure completion of all annual business and tax filings Serve as primary contact for grants and contract financial reporting Supervise contract renewals Ensure adherence to reporting regulations at local, state, federal, and contract levels Manage invoice submission and reporting for contracts and grants, coordinating with project management to gather required invoices and program reports Internal Controls and Procedures Follow standard protocols for internal control policies including budget management, cash handling, and accounting procedures Provide recommendations to the Board of Directors for policy updates Revise standard operating procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy as needed Cash and Investment Management Track cash flow to ensure liquidity needs are met Manage banking relationships, cash balances, investments, and debt reporting Other Responsibilities Advise leadership on immediate and long term financial goals, strategies, and decisions Contribute to organizational strategy as a member of the leadership team Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting department Attend Board and committee meetings upon invitation Participate in professional development including seminars, conferences, training, and review of industry publications Perform other duties as assigned Job Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with demonstrated experience Minimum two years in a managerial role and ten years of accounting experience Construction project accounting experience strongly preferred CPA, MBA, or other advanced credentials preferred Experience preparing financial statements in accordance with GAAP Strong organizational skills with ability to self start, multitask, and take direction from multiple sources Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a deadline driven environment Ability to adapt processes in response to changing circumstances Passion for affordable housing development and dedication to serving individuals and families experiencing housing instability Working knowledge of QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Office 365, and MS Project in a PC environment Experience leading and training staff Valid driver's license and auto insurance required Background check required Physical Requirements Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for extended periods Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of light office items up to 25 pounds Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer, printer, copier, scanner, phone system, and postage meter Hand eye coordination and manual dexterity to handle paperwork and equipment Visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents Ability to communicate verbally and in writing Hearing and speaking abilities for in person, phone, and video conversations Benefits Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance with discounted group plans for family members Thirteen paid holidays annually Sixteen paid days off per twelve months 401(k) retirement plan with discretionary employer match Mileage reimbursement per company and IRS guidelines Flexible spending account Paid training courses related to industry skill building Onsite parking Flexible hybrid work schedule
