Position:

Under general supervision, performs specialized technical expertise and detailed accounting work required to support complex County functions; maintains County financial accounts and records and assists in the preparation of financial reports and analyses; provides responsible technical and clerical accounting support to professional staff; and performs related work as required. Conducts and/or provides lead direction on support work for the most difficult, sensitive, and/or highly technical accounting assignments, studies, or projects; monitors processes and timelines. Maintains, audits, verifies, and reconciles a variety of accounts, reports, journals, budgets, or related fiscal or statistical data; summarizes and posts data as required. Processes claims, invoices, purchase orders, payments, contracts, and bids, including maintaining complete and accurate records, auditing progress payments, and preparing the appropriate correspondence. Click here to view the complete job description. Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12 th ) grade, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible accounting experience, preferably with a government agency. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

License & Special Requirements :

A valid Class C California driver's license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The department is recruiting for one (1) anticipated vacancy occurring in late June 2026. In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for an Accounting Specialist, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.

Tentative Interview Dates:

1st: Thursday, April 30, 2026. 2nd: Friday, May 1, 2026. New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
