Job Description

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, Texas, is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant. This position will perform general clerical duties to assist the Pastor with parish operations.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church ("the Diocese") entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:
As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed Answering the phone and directing messages to the proper departments Greeting people at the door and responding to their inquiries Preparing the Parish Bulletin on weekly basis and sending it off to the company for printing Receiving and scheduling Mass intentions Recording Sacraments, typing the certificates, and sending notifications to other parishes, if applicable Issuing certificates of various Sacraments upon request Assisting the Diocesan Accounting Firm by managing invoices, processing bill payments, managing weekly collections deposits, processing monthly bank statements, and generating and emailing online donations through OSV platform Assisting with any other sporadic office matters, as they arise and keeping Pastor informed Perform other duties as assigned
Mental/Physical Demands:
Ability to manage duties effectively and tactfully Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma Minimum of 2 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting support, or financial administration Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial recordkeeping Familiarity with financial systems such as QuickBooks, FACTS, Stripe, or similar platforms preferred Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Valid Texas driver's license required
Additional Requirements:
