Qualifications:
Associate or bachelor's degree in business, accounting or finance preferred. High degree of proficiency and accuracy in office procedures/bookkeeping, keyboarding, office equipment operation, maintenance, business machines, and computer software programs. Previous bookkeeping experience required; knowledge and practical experience beyond basic bookkeeping and ability to maintain computerized accounting records. Ability to work independently and make decisions in accordance with established policies and regulations. Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record. Excellent public relations/customer service skills, pleasant personality and courteous manner, and good verbal communications. Ability to maintain self-control, complete tasks with frequent interruption, and multi-task. Proven ability to be self-motivated, to work independently, and with others. Possess the ability and willingness to perform first aid.
THE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Our district includes one Title I elementary school (K-5), the region's largest Title I middle school (grades 6-8), and the largest high school (grades 9-12) attached to a Career Center serving students in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Our Title I Alternative High School provides a supportive environment for approximately 100 students, offering credit recovery and graduation options. With a dedicated staff of 126 teachers, 200 support staff, and 11 administrators, we serve 1,710 students with a budget of over $30 million. Our students consistently score above state and national averages on standardized tests, and we meet or exceed all State Board Guidelines on curriculum, graduation requirements, class ratios, and scholastic eligibility. We offer Advanced Placement courses in four disciplines and numerous opportunities for coursework at Lake Superior State University through Early/Middle College, dual enrollment, and concurrent enrollment programs. Our district is renowned for its professional learning opportunities, individual teacher coaches, and professional learning communities. New teachers receive strong mentorship and guidance, with efforts to qualify them for tuition or loan forgiveness. Sault Area Schools is a leader in computer-aided instruction, with all classrooms equipped with instructional technology. The Career Center integrates technology into many career and technical programs, including business services and drafting and design with industry-standard CAD-CAM software. THE COMMUNITY
The Sault Ste. Marie Area Public School District is located at the northernmost end of I-75 on the Canadian border in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. With its proximity to Ontario and the rivers and lakes of the Upper Peninsula, the district is known as a vacation and sports person's paradise. Encompassing 314 square miles, the District is geographically one of the largest in Michigan. Professional planners predict that the area will continue to grow as an attractive, low-tax area for retirees and vacationers. The twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario provide the urban hub for eastern Chippewa County and Northern Ontario.
