Job Description

The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit #07 (WIU7), headquartered in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking an accomplished, collaborative, and visionary educational leader to serve as Interim Executive Director. This unique leadership opportunity offers the successful candidate the ability to guide a highly respected regional educational service agency dedicated to advancing educational excellence, organizational effectiveness, and student-centered outcomes throughout Westmoreland County. Serving 17 public school districts, Clairview School, three Career and Technology Centers, and non-public schools across the region, WIU7 provides a comprehensive continuum of educational programs and operational services designed to support students, families, educators, and communities. The organization's work spans early childhood services, special education, professional learning, student support initiatives, and operational systems that collectively strengthen educational access, innovation, and opportunity across the county. The Board of Directors seeks a leader capable of providing stable, strategic, and forward-thinking leadership while continuing to advance the Intermediate Unit's mission, long-term priorities, and commitment to operational excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to cultivate collaborative relationships with the WIU Board of Directors, Administrative Team, school district leadership, staff, families, and community partners while ensuring continuity, responsiveness, and high-quality service delivery across all areas of the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated capacity to lead complex educational systems with professionalism, integrity, and accountability while balancing strategic vision with the operational demands of a multifaceted educational agency. This individual should exhibit exceptional organizational and administrative leadership, extensive experience in systems management and school finance, and a sophisticated understanding of budgeting, personnel administration, negotiations, capital improvement, and resource allocation. Equally important is the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, foster meaningful professional relationships, and lead with a collaborative, student-centered approach that inspires confidence and trust throughout the organization. The Interim Executive Director will oversee the daily operations of an organization employing more than 250 staff members while navigating the financial and operational complexities associated with an educational service agency. The Board seeks a leader who not only understands the evolving educational landscape within Pennsylvania but who also recognizes the importance of innovation, responsiveness, and service-oriented leadership in supporting school communities and improving outcomes for children and families. WIU7 takes pride in fostering a culture grounded in professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The organization remains committed to supporting the evolving needs of its member districts and educational partners while maintaining a strong focus on operational stewardship, educational quality, and meaningful service to students. The successful candidate will help guide an organization actively engaged in continuous improvement efforts to strengthen systems, enhance regional collaboration, and expand the impact of educational services throughout the county. Required qualifications include a Pennsylvania Superintendent Letter of Eligibility or an IU Executive Director PK-12 Certificate, with a doctorate preferred. Candidates must possess a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in education, along with demonstrated success in executive or senior-level educational leadership. Extensive knowledge and experience in organizational leadership, finance, personnel management, negotiations, capital improvement, and strategic operations are essential. Previous Intermediate Unit experience is preferred.
Minimum Education:
Pennsylvania Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility or IU Executive Director PK-12 Certificate; Doctorate preferred
Minimum Experience:
10 years of experience in education; experience in central office administration (Executive Director, Assistant Executive Director, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Director level position); extensive knowledge and experience in organizational leadership, finance, capital improvement, and negotiations.
