Pay Range:
$25.20 - $35.60 per hour Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rush's anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.
Summary:
Provides direct supervision and operational oversight of pathology administrative staff and serves as the subject matter expert for pathology administrative processes. Oversees daily administrative operations including billing coordination, workflow management, staff scheduling, performance oversight, and process improvement to ensure efficient, compliant, and consistent support of pathology services. Exemplifies institutional mission, values, and code of conduct and acts in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in healthcare, laboratory, or hospital administrative operations required.
Preferred:
Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
Skills:
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills; strong communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to direct workflows and personnel; proficiency with general office practices and software; laboratory or hospital information systems preferred.
Responsibilities:
Directly supervises pathology administrative staff, including work assignment, scheduling, training, and performance evaluation. Provides day-to-day direction and prioritization of administrative workflows to ensure service expectations are met. Conducts employee evaluations within established timelines and participates in coaching and corrective action with managerial oversight, consistent with Just Culture principles. Serves as first-level escalation for administrative staff issues and operational concerns. Participates in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and retention of administrative staff. Oversees and coordinates billing procedures and documentation within the Pathology Maintains and updates resource documents related to coding and billing regulations. Reviews and verifies charges for Revenue Audit Department and initiates corrections as needed. Ensures accurate entry and correction of ICD-10 and CPT codes in patient billing records when required. Assists patients and clients with billing questions and resolves issues escalated by staff. Collaborates with laboratory leadership to support operational goals, staffing needs, and service continuity. Participates in special projects and initiatives as assigned. Serves as backup to Laboratory Manager during absences for administrative operations. Understands, enforces, and owns all pathology administrative policies and procedures. Owns, develops, implements, and maintains all pathology administrative policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with institutional requirements, regulatory standards, and departmental operations. Ensures staff adherence to departmental and institutional policies and supports inspection readiness. Monitors, regulates, and adjusts administrative workflows to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time. Serves as an escalation point for administrative issues affecting pathology operations, billing, reporting, and client communication. Responds to internal and external inquiries in a timely, thorough, and professional manner. Identifies opportunities for process improvement within pathology administrative operations. Participates in investigation and response to safety events, complaints, and operational issues to determine system or process gaps. Encourages staff engagement in quality improvement and safety reporting. Oversees administrative billing workflows to support accurate reimbursement and compliance. Monitors administrative resources and supplies and provides input into operational needs. Gathers and analyzes administrative data to support reporting, audits, and operational decision-making. Prepares and conducts administrative staff meetings and contributes to departmental communications. Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
