Position Summary The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for implementing therapeutic activity programs that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of long-term inpatient residents. This role also manages and maintains required documentation, ensures patient safety during activities, and supports quality recreational services in compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Resident Assessments and Documentation Complete activity assessments, quarterly reviews, significant change assessments, and annual evaluations for long-term residents. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with organizational policies and Department of Health regulations. 2. MDS Coordination and Compliance Demonstrate knowledge of Minimum Data Set (MDS) requirements. Complete documentation and reporting as required by regulatory agencies and departmental standards. 3. Therapeutic Activity Implementation Implement planned therapeutic and recreational activities according to resident care plans and monthly activity schedules. Ensure programs begin and conclude in a timely and organized manner. 4. Program Planning and Development Assist in planning and coordinating special programs and events listed on the monthly activity calendar. Recommend equipment, materials, and supplies necessary for successful program implementation. 5. Equipment and Supply Maintenance Maintain recreational equipment and supplies in a clean, safe, and functional condition. Monitor inventory and report replacement or repair needs as appropriate. 6. Transportation and Community Outings Operate the organization's van for community outings and recreational trips. Follow all transportation safety procedures and maintain a valid driver's license. 7. Volunteer Supervision Supervise and provide guidance to volunteers assisting with recreational activities. Prepare equipment as needed and report volunteer participation outcomes. 8. Meetings and In-Service Participation Attend required meetings including care plan meetings, family meetings, departmental meetings, morning reports, and in-service trainings. 9. Activity Leadership and Teamwork Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of recreational and therapeutic activities. Provide instruction and leadership to residents, volunteers, and staff while promoting teamwork and cooperation. 10. Patient Safety Ensure patient safety during all planned activities and outings. Assess environmental conditions and confirm equipment is used properly and safely. 11. Communication Respond professionally and promptly to requests for assistance or information from residents, families, coworkers, and supervisors. 12. HIPAA and Confidentiality Compliance Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies. 13. Multitasking and Organization Effectively manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Education and Experience Requirements Required Education High School Diploma or GED Required Experience Minimum of 3 years of related experience in recreation, therapeutic activities, healthcare, or long-term care settings preferred. Required Training Training in therapeutic recreation, patient activities, safety procedures, HIPAA compliance, and resident care preferred. Skills and Qualifications Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to lead group activities and engage residents Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of patient safety practices and infection control Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Valid driver's license required for transportation duties Work Environment This position works primarily in a healthcare or long-term care setting and may require standing, walking, lifting activity supplies, transporting residents, and participating in indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
