Full Job Description Overview Monday-Friday:
8-5 or 9-6 Onsite 6 months contract Collections Support Specialist Job Summary Perform complex, time-intensive credits on non-performing assets through journal entries and departmental monetary adjustments, with occasional balancing of outages. Ensure the accuracy of charge-off losses and adjusted journal entries while adhering to accounting principles for proper financial recordkeeping. Responsibilities Analyze general ledger accounts. Monitor and maintain sub-ledgers, reconcile and research accounts to clear variances. Participate in departmental projects and support ongoing initiatives. Maintain a basic understanding of applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and anti-money laundering requirements. Assist in audits and reconciliations for account types such as vehicle/RV loans, personal loans, lines of credit, and credit cards. Process and review collection payments, collection extensions, expulsion processes, and account closures. Manage negative share, credit card, and loan charge-offs. Review delinquent accounts 150 to 180 days past due and write off small balances on personal loans, credit cards, and negative share accounts. Reconcile daily teller work. Review the accurate processing of journal vouchers and escalate issues to the supervisor as needed. Review the accurate processing of data changes and escalate issues to the supervisor as needed. Post and balance Chapter 13, collection agency, and attorney suit payments. Process warranty and GAP refund checks on member accounts. Prepare checks for charge-off accounts pending expulsion, as needed. Administer the expulsion process by identifying and researching accounts associated with losses. Identify member assets and process delinquency offsets and account closures. Assist the supervisor with ongoing departmental projects. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and training preferred. Three or more years of experience performing journal entries, reconciliations, and account research in a similar role within a financial services environment. Effective oral and written communication skills to interact with internal staff and follow up on member accounts. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and demonstrate initiative. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate an online computer terminal and standard office equipment, including 10-key and financial calculators. Ability to sit for prolonged periods with occasional mobility, with normal or corrected vision and hearing (assistive devices provided if needed). Skills Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with journal voucher processes and general ledger systems. Ability to balance and reconcile general ledger accounts accurately. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Familiarity with credit products, account types, and related policies and procedures. Proficient use of standard office software and data systems for account research and processing. Summary Qualification High school education required; additional accounting coursework or degree preferred. Minimum of three years of experience in accounting, reconciliation, and research within a financial setting. Demonstrated expertise in handling charge-offs, delinquent accounts, and complex account adjustments. Proven ability to maintain compliance with relevant financial regulations and internal policies.
