Reporting to the Assistant Bursar, the Student Accounts - Collection Specialist oversees student receivables, collection operations, and third-party billing. This role manages delinquent accounts, supports billing processes, ensures data accuracy, and implements strategies to reduce outstanding balances while maintaining a high level of student service and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Manage past-due student accounts through outreach, payment plans, and third-party collections Analyze aged receivables and delinquency trends to reduce outstanding balances and bad debt Provide financial counseling and coordinate account holds with campus partners Administer student billing activities, including refunds, third-party and graduate program billing Prepare, reconcile, and maintain accurate records for scholarships, third-party payers, and sponsor invoicing Generate reports and conduct periodic audits to ensure account accuracy and compliance Serve as backup for cashier and reception operations, including payment processing and daily reconciliations Support general office operations, including billing distribution and returned mail resolution Ensure compliance with college policies, data security standards, and regulatory requirements Complete required training and perform other duties as assignedRequirements:
High school diploma required, associate bachelor's degree in related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience. Two years of experience in accounts receivable or related experience required; experience in higher education preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise data management systems such as Colleague, Outlook, and other cloud-based products. Knowledge of financial recordkeeping/reporting principles and procedures. Ability to deliver effective customer service through accurately assessing and handling phone calls, visitor requests with discretion and a positive attitude. Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey complex financial aid processes, ideas, facts, and information effectively and accurately to students, staff, faculty, and the public. Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Detail-oriented skills in proofreading materials and data entry to ensure accuracy.Additional Information:
