Benefits may vary based upon position type and/or level. Job Summary The Collector, under general supervision and following procedures, performs collection activities for assigned accounts. Contacts patients and insurance representatives by phone or mail to check claim status, obtain insurance information, check interim billings, and counsel patients on financial arrangements. Maintains collection files on the accounts receivable system. Essential Functions of the Role Performs collection activities for assigned accounts. Contacts patients, insurance companies, attorneys, employers, and physicians to resolve payment issues or arrange payment plans. Contacts patients and insurance representatives by phone or mail to check claim status, obtain insurance information, check interim billings, and counsel patients on financial arrangements. Maintains collection files on the accounts receivable system. Enters detailed records consisting of any pertinent information needed for collection follow-up. Processes accounts for write-off. Conducts thorough research on accounts to see if they qualify. Presents complete documentation to the Billing and Collections Manager for approval. Counsels patients regarding accounts and responds to patient inquiries. Communicates with collection affiliates and provides information to the Credit Bureau in solving payment difficulties. Receives, reviews, and responds to correspondence related to accounts. Takes action as required.
