Medical billing Medical terminology Full Job Description Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses, managing billing processes, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. This role is essential in maintaining the financial health of the practice while supporting efficient patient record management. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems, and electronic health record (EHR) systems to succeed in this position. Duties Assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes to medical diagnoses and procedures Review and interpret medical records to ensure accurate coding and billing Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies using EMR/EHR systems Follow up on unpaid claims and perform medical collections as needed Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and insurance requirements Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and billing documentation Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation for proper coding Stay current with changes in coding standards, including updates to ICD, CPT, and DRG codes Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and patient inquiries related to billing statements Experience Prior experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting is preferred Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and medical office software applications Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding standards (ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG) Knowledge of medical billing processes, collections, and insurance claim submission procedures Familiarity with healthcare regulations related to coding and billing compliance Experience working with ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10) and CPT coding is highly desirable Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in data entry and record keeping
