Billing Specialist - Behavioral Health LK Institute Phoenix, AZ Job Details Part-time | Full-time $18 - $26 an hour 19 hours ago Benefits Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Qualifications Appeals Certified Professional Coder Records management Attention to detail Medical Billing Certification Full Job Description Behavioral Health Billing Specialist CPB Certification Required CPC cert. & AAPC Behavioral Health Training preferred We are a behavioral health practice offering intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient (OP) services and we are looking for a detail-oriented billing specialist to join our team. This role is central to keeping our revenue cycle running smoothly so our clinical team can focus on client care. You will work closely with leadership, front desk staff, and providers to manage all aspects of billing operations from benefits verification through collections. Key responsibilities Insurance verification & prior authorization Conduct verification of benefits (VOB) for all clients prior to the start of services Confirm eligibility, copays, deductibles, authorization requirements, and coverage limitations Manage utilization review (UR) and ongoing authorization requests for IOP and OP levels of care Maintain accurate documentation of insurance benefits and payer communications Claims management Submit clean claims electronically and manually as needed Scrub claims for accuracy and compliance prior to submission Monitor claim status and resolve rejected or unpaid claims promptly Monitor EOBs, ERAs, and payment postings Ensure timely filing compliance across all payers Accounts receivable & collections Review and manage AR aging reports regularly Follow up on outstanding insurance claims and client balances Identify trends impacting reimbursement and recommend corrective actions Respond to client billing questions in a professional and empathetic manner Maintain documentation of all client interactions in EHR Denials management Investigate, appeal, and track denied or underpaid claims Identify denial trends and implement preventative solutions Maintain organized records of appeals and payer correspondence Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience in behavioral health billing, with IOP/PHP experience preferred Solid knowledge of insurance verification, claims processing, denial management, and payment posting Experience with Commercial Insurance Plans Familiarity with eligibility portals and clearinghouses Experience with Valant EHR preferred; other behavioral health EHR/practice management systems welcomed Strong understanding of payer guidelines and revenue cycle processes Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently Strong communication and problem-solving skills What we offer (for full time candidates) Competitive compensation Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer match Paid time off Supportive, mission-driven team environment Opportunities for professional growth and development If you enjoy problem solving, staying organized, and making a real difference behind the scenes in a clinical setting, we would love to hear from you!
