Medical Billing Specialist

Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities Prepare and submit medical claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Review medical records and documentation to verify proper coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding standards. Assign Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) codes when applicable for inpatient hospital stays. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims with insurance companies and patients, performing effective medical collections. Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments, adjustments, and correspondence for audit purposes. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding discrepancies to ensure proper reimbursement. Stay updated on changes in medical coding guidelines, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations to ensure compliance. Skills Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures, including claim submission and follow-up processes. Proficiency in medical coding systems such as CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG classifications. Experience working with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards. Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate coding and billing accuracy. Effective communication skills for interacting with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients. Ability to interpret complex medical data and apply appropriate coding guidelines efficiently.
