Job Description
United Laboratory Service Corp (Miami FL) The Laboratory Billing Manager is a team leadership position responsible for managing the activities of assigned employees in providing quality billing services, settlements, and accounts receivables in a timely and accurate manner ensuring adherence to departmental policies and procedures and in accordance with federal regulations and guidelines. Position assures that all work activities comply with productivity and quality standards. Position oversees and mentors employees to build a cohesive team while also fostering a positive, productive work environment. Position will also collaborate with other organizational employees to implement change and quality improvement initiatives. Duties 1. Directs the process of identifying, developing, and communicating systems, policies and procedures related to A/R and billing. 2. Responsible for knowledge and interaction with multiple forms of insurance including: Medicare Part B, Commercial Insurance, Client Billing, etc. 3. Responsible for checking eligibility and benefits and obtaining referrals and pre-authorizations as required for laboratory services. 4. Oversees patient bills for accuracy and completeness, and responsible for obtaining any missing information. 5. Prepares, reviews, and transmits claims using the appropriate billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing. 6. Administers follow up on any unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle timeframe and checks each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discounts. 7. Calls insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments when necessary. 8. Responsible for identifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurances. 9. Oversees accounts for insurance and conducts any patient follow-up. 10. Directs the appeal process and researches any denied claims. 11. Answers all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts. 12. Manages payment plans and collection accounts. 13. Updates billing software with rate changes, cash spreadsheets, and any running collection reports. 14. Responsible for the writing and updating of work instructions. 15. Prepares end of month reporting and processes. 16. Ensures policies and procedures adhere to all governmental and payor regulations. 17. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve cash flow. 18. Posts insurance, client, and patient payments. 19. Leads by Example (LBE), upholds and promotes the culture, mission, and values of Excell Lab. 20. Performs all job duties with a friendly positive and team-oriented approach. 21. Maintains professional/technical competencies and proficiencies for job responsibilities. 22. Complies with all Company policies, procedures, rules and standards. 23. Assists with special projects as needed. 24. Meets Expectations of Excellence for position. 25. Supports location, departmental goals, and the overall objectives of the Company. 26. Complies with all laws, regulations and standards of ethical conduct. 27. Responsible for uncompromising levels of cleanliness and safety.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in accounting or business or related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
- Three (3) to five (5) years' billing laboratory services preferably in Clinical Laboratory business
- Three (3) to five (5) years' billing multiple forms of insurance such as Third - Party, and Medicare Programs.
- Exemplary computer skills that include knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
