Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately translating medical procedures, diagnoses, and services into standardized codes while managing the billing process to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement. This position requires a strong foundation in medical billing and coding. While prior ophthalmology experience is preferred, the ideal candidate must already be proficient in coding, claims management, and reimbursement processes. Training will be provided on specialty-specific workflows as needed. Responsibilities Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes Ensure all coding aligns with current guidelines and payer-specific requirements Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using EMR/EHR systems Manage and resolve denied or rejected claims , including appeals and corrections Perform accounts receivable (AR) follow-up to ensure timely reimbursement Maintain detailed documentation of coding decisions and billing activities Stay current on coding updates, payer policies, and regulatory requirements Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy Qualifications Proven experience in medical billing and coding is required Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems Demonstrated experience with insurance claims, denials, and reimbursement processes Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple claims efficiently Ability to work independently and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment Ophthalmology or surgical experience preferred, but not required Required / Preferred Certifications CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
