Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to support revenue cycle operations for a healthcare organization in Lewiston, Maine. This is a Contract position focused on accurate claim preparation, timely follow-up, and consistent reimbursement processing. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of medical billing workflows, coding practices, and payer communication, along with the ability to manage accounts efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and submit medical claims with a high degree of accuracy to support timely payment from insurance carriers and other payers.
  • Review billing documentation and coding details to identify discrepancies, correct issues, and reduce claim rejections or denials.
  • Follow up on outstanding balances by working directly with payers, patients, and internal teams to resolve billing questions and secure reimbursement.
  • Investigate denied or delayed claims, determine the cause, and take appropriate action to support successful resubmission or appeal.
  • Maintain organized account records and update billing systems with current claim status, payment activity, and collection notes.
  • Use EPACES and related billing tools to verify information, review claim activity, and assist with claims processing tasks.
  • Monitor accounts receivable activity and prioritize follow-up efforts to improve collection performance and payment turnaround times.
