Job Description

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region as an Accounts Billing Specialist I. This full-time, day-shift role involves managing insurance claims, posting payments, and addressing patient billing inquiries with accuracy and compassion. General Summary The Accounts Billing Specialist I is responsible for entering and submitting insurance claims, verifying patient information, and responding to patient questions regarding account balances, copays, deductibles, and write-offs. This role reports directly to the Billing Supervisor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Enter accurate patient and insurance information for claims processing. Submit claims electronically or via paper forms such as UB04 and
CMS-1500.
Respond to patient inquiries about billing and insurance coverage. Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims with insurance companies and resubmit as needed. Prepare appeal letters for denied claims, gathering necessary documentation. Adhere to HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information. Perform soft collections by contacting patients regarding past due accounts. Verify patient benefits and coverage limits, including managed care authorizations. Submit secondary claims after primary insurer processing.

Experience Previous medical billing experience is highly preferred, along with familiarity with billing software and electronic data submission. Certification/License Not specified. Mental/Physical Requirements Ability to communicate detailed information clearly and understand written instructions. Maintain concentration during repetitive tasks. Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Working Conditions Standard office environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and other hazards.
