This professional role is responsible for managing complex reimbursement, resident accounts, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, and private pay billing while serving as a key financial resource for residents, families, and the organization. Position Summary The Senior Revenue Cycle Specialist is responsible for managing resident billing, collections, reimbursement, and accounts receivable functions in a long-term care setting. This role ensures accurate and timely billing for Medicare, Medicaid, private pay, VA, and other payer sources while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.
The Senior Revenue Cycle Specialist serves as a key liaison between the facility, residents, families, and external agencies to support financial operations, reimbursement, and customer service. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively manage complex payer requirements, resident account issues, and reimbursement processes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage resident billing and accounts receivable functions for Medicare, Medicaid, private pay, VA, managed care, and other payer sources. Ensure accurate and timely billing, payment posting, account reconciliation, and follow-up on outstanding balances. Monitor accounts receivable aging and proactively resolve unpaid claims, denials, and billing discrepancies. Communicate with residents, families, responsible parties, insurance companies, government agencies, and other third parties regarding billing and account matters. Assist residents and families with understanding financial obligations, insurance coverage, and payment options. Review and maintain resident account records to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations and facility policies. Work collaboratively with nursing, admissions, social services, MDS, and finance staff to support reimbursement and revenue cycle operations. Research and resolve complex billing, reimbursement, eligibility, and payment issues. Prepare reports and maintain documentation related to accounts receivable, collections, and reimbursement activities. Stay current on Medicare, Medicaid, VA, and other payer regulations affecting long-term care reimbursement. Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications Required:
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of three years of experience in healthcare billing, revenue cycle, insurance, banking, accounting, finance, or related business operations. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, VA billing, or long-term care reimbursement. Experience with PointClickCare or similar healthcare software. Knowledge of skilled nursing facility reimbursement and revenue cycle processes.
