Medical Billing Specialist

Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare administration team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical billing processes, coding systems, and insurance claim procedures. This role is essential in ensuring accurate billing, efficient claims submission, and timely collections, thereby supporting the financial health of our healthcare organization. The Medical Billing Responsibilities Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using appropriate coding systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications. Review medical records and documentation to ensure proper coding and billing compliance with industry standards and regulations. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance companies and patients to facilitate prompt resolution. Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments, adjustments, and collections within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures when necessary for accurate billing. Ensure adherence to all applicable federal and state regulations governing medical billing and coding practices. Assist in training new staff on billing procedures, coding updates, and system usage to promote a knowledgeable team environment. Skills Proficiency in medical billing software, EMR systems, and EHR platforms with a strong understanding of their functionalities. In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and the intricacies of medical coding including

CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD

coding, and DRG classifications. Experience with medical collection processes to recover outstanding balances efficiently. Familiarity with insurance claim submission processes and denials management to optimize reimbursement rates. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to handle multiple claims accurately and efficiently. Effective communication skills for liaising with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients regarding billing issues. Prior experience in a medical office setting is preferred to understand workflow dynamics within healthcare environments.
