Job Description

Medical Billing Clerks have a responsibility for handling varied aspects of the billing process including answering high volume of calls, patient correspondence, and submitting insurance claims. Must have good phone skills, be a quick thinker and a team player. The position requires the ability to interact well with patients, visitors, and third-party payers and staff members and to remain calm under stress. Medical Billing Clerks duties
  • compiling amounts owed to medical facility
  • reviews and maintains orders, invoices and records to ensure accuracy
  • maintains all patient payment records
  • compile data
  • compute fees and charges
  • calculate rates for goods and services
  • prepare invoices for billing purposes
  • greeting patients
  • answering multi-line telephone system
  • collect patient payments
  • identify patient sliding fee responsibilities
  • making sure all insurance coverage information is up to date Medicare Medicaid Private Insurance
  • insurance billing
  • set up patient payment schedules
  • deposit funds collected
  • enter patient encounter information at the end of each day/week
  • scanning
  • data entry ICD-10 Coding CPT Coding
  • records incoming payments and distributes to billing
  • assists with special projects, as necessary
  • general office support and errands
  • performs other duties as assigned
  • OB/GYN billing experience a plus
Attendance and Punctuality Experience:
Must have 6 months to 1 year of office support experience in a medical setting preferred or equivalent education,proven problem solving and time management skills and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, billing and appointment software, multi-line telephone systems, personal computers, and fax machines. Medical billers must understand the basic and major medical coverage plans, such as the Fee-for-Service Plans, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Point-of-Service Plans (POS) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) and know the different methods of billing patients and understand the medical billing industry and all its complexities. Must have strong organizational skills, medical billing experience, working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding and be able to type a minimum of 35 words per minute. Possess excellent customer service and communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with the public and co-workers. A working knowledge of insurances, computerized registration, and billing and collection procedures needed. Has the ability to recognize and set priorities to accomplish established objectives and to perform basic math computations. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within the medical field. Medical billers rely on and use instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Nonprofit healthcare experience is helpful.
