This role is responsible for managing denied and rejected insurance claims from initial review through resolution. The ideal candidate will have experience working with behavioral health insurance billing, strong payer communication skills, and the ability to navigate appeals, claim corrections, and resubmissions efficiently. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of the organization while supporting our mission of delivering accessible behavioral healthcare services. Key Responsibilities Review and resolve denied and rejected behavioral health insurance claims Investigate claim denials by analyzing payer explanations of benefits (EOBs) and remittance advice Contact insurance companies to obtain claim status updates and clarification on denial reasons Correct claim errors and submit clean claims for reprocessing Prepare and submit appeals for denied claims when appropriate Track timely filing deadlines and appeal submission requirements Document all payer communication and claim activity accurately within billing systems Work collaboratively with clinical, admissions, and administrative teams to obtain required documentation Identify recurring denial trends and communicate process improvement opportunities Verify eligibility, authorization, and payer requirements as needed Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards at all times Assist with accounts receivable follow-up and aging claims management Stay informed on payer policies, behavioral health billing regulations, and reimbursement updates Qualifications Associate degree preferred, ideally in Healthcare Administration, Medical Billing & Coding, Business Administration, Behavioral Health Administration, or related healthcare field Minimum 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, insurance follow-up, or denial management Experience working with behavioral health, substance use treatment, or mental health claims strongly preferred Familiarity with commercial insurance, Medicaid, and managed care payer processes Understanding of claim denials, appeals workflows, EOBs, and claim correction procedures Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding concepts Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively Aptitude with EMR/EHR and medical billing software systems

From $21.00 per hour
